Making the mold: The first step involves creating a metal (usually steel) form of the product that they want to produce. It cures in a few hours but depending on how large the mold is and how hot it gets. This is a key stage because when fr4 laminated fiberglass sets the soft mix turns into something hard and substantial.
The pre SMC molding era products development was mainly done with the use of other methods which involved a lot more time and money in making. These conventional processes were time-consuming and costly – especially for larger parts in automotive or outdoor furniture businesses.
